After years of struggle and being passed between social services, CAMHS, hospitals and doctors like a hot potato that nobody wants to take the time to help, Jamie is nearly 20 and locked up in a secure mental hospital diagnosed with BPD (Borderline Personally disorder) not getting the treatment needed.
Sadly, she believes her family will be better off without her which could not be further from the truth.
As amazing the NHS is / used to be….(I’m a big fan), the bottom line is that after so many funding cuts they are so over-stretched that they can not offer the treatment that is needed for those suffering like Jamie.
Drugs to make her sleep all day “because it’s easier” is not the answer.
We are going to raise the funds to send her to a private hospital or to get private care / treatment in the community. Treatments such as “Dialectical Behaviour Therapy” (DBT) has been proven to be effective for people struggling with BPD. I’ve been quoted £300k for 12 months specialist care in a private hospital in Manchester which is eye watering! As well as raising money this way I will be selling our home in Warrington.
If you could meet her you would agree that she is such a special person with a big kind heart who loves to help people and we need to help her get through this. It’s a terrible situation for her family to watch – the nurses that care for her also agree that being institutionalised and drugged up is not the right care for her but no other option in the NHS seems to be available!!
Money SHOULD NOT buy happiness or keep people alive but without it you’re pretty screwed so it’s time to put our pride aside and beg for some help.
